Desktop app

Installation, updates, the system tray, global shortcuts and opening invites in the app.

Last updated:

The desktop app is the same MOODS as the web app, plus global shortcuts, a system tray icon, native notifications and higher quality screen sharing.

Installation

  • Windows: download the installer from the Download page and run it. Requires Windows 10 or later.
  • macOS: download the DMG and drag MOODS into Applications. Requires macOS 12 or later; runs on Apple silicon and Intel Macs.

To make sure the file hasn’t been altered, compare its SHA-256 digest with the one on the Download page.

Updates

The app downloads new versions in the background. When an update is ready, Update ready appears in the title bar; click it to restart and update.

System tray

When you close the window, MOODS keeps running in the tray and keeps showing notifications. Right-click the tray icon to mute, deafen or quit. Change this in Settings › Windows Settings (macOS Settings on a Mac).

Shortcuts

Shortcut Action
Ctrl K (⌘ K on macOS) Command palette and quick switcher
Ctrl Shift M Toggle microphone
Ctrl Shift D Toggle deafen
Alt ↑ / ↓ Previous / next channel
Esc Mark channel as read

Mute and deafen shortcuts are global in the desktop app, so they work while a game is in front. Change shortcuts in Settings › Keybinds.

When you open an invite link and choose Open in the app, it opens straight in the desktop app. If the app isn’t installed, use Continue in browser.

Start on login

Turn on Open MOODS when your computer starts in Settings › Windows Settings (macOS Settings on a Mac) to start MOODS minimised when you sign in.
